Pokemon Go players slam Niantic over “ridiculous” Go Fest ticket prices

Jessica Filby

Pokemon Go players are calling out the prices of the 2024 Go Fest tickets, with hundreds labeling it as far too expensive.

Pokemon Go Fest has been announced, bringing exciting adventures and challenges to players across the world. While those in New York, Madrid, and Sendai can enjoy an in-person event, those unable to get to the cities can explore the online experience through the global event. However, for that, you’ll need a ticket.

Naturally, with Pokemon Go being a free game, Niantic needs to make their money through microtransactions. Usually, these occur through the in-game shop, but they can also be present through Timed Research or event tickets, with players needing to purchase access to the challenges and rewards that come with it.

“It’s costlier than Hollow Knight” commented one user, putting the price into perspective based off what you can get from other video games. “This is getting ridiculous” echoed another player who was quick to slam the prices of Niantic’s microtransactions.

Other players took to the comments to call out the game for “mythical gatekeeping,” referring to the release of Marshadow that’s currently locked behind the tickets. However, as other players have explained, it’s likely you will be able to get hold of Marshadow later down the line in a future event or season.

Ultimately, whether you choose to buy the ticket or not is an entirely personal choice, but it’s clear the Pokemon Go community has had enough of increasing ticket prices.
