Pokemon Go player shares “awesome” and unique rural map

Scott Baird

A Pokemon Go player has shared the rural overworld map of their local area, which looks drastically different from the ones that most players are used to seeing.

The ideal location for a Pokemon Go player to live is a big city. Not only is there likely an active community of players to engage with, but there will be PokeStops and Gyms for you to interact with, giving you lots of items and the chance to participate in Raids.

There are also plenty of Pokemon Go fans in rural areas, but the game is much more difficult for them, especially as Remote Raid Passes can be pricey. This also means people have to work harder to find people to play Pokemon Go with them.

One of the benefits of living in a rural area is that the overworld often looks drastically different than the grids that make up most city maps in Pokemon Go. This means that rural Pokemon Go players can at least enjoy the game’s aesthetics, even if everything else is more difficult for them.

Pokemon Go player’s rural map is out of this world

A user on the Pokemon Go Mystic Reddit page has shared a screenshot of what their game looks like. Their overworld has perfect rows of greens and blues, a pattern seldom seen in the mobile game.

The OP explained that the image was taken on the Texas coast, in an area with many canals running between houses.

“Are you living in the far lands or what?” One player said, referencing the glitched-out region in Minecraft, while another added, “You live in my Cities: Skylines town.”

A user mentioned, “I visited a friend in Florida before in a neighborhood like this, absolutely zero spawns,” while another wrote, “I hope you have a Pokemon that knows surf.”

What’s impressive about the map is how it looks like the overworld has been corrupted by a bug, creating an even pattern that looks like it’s from a debug map. However, that’s just what the game looks like on the coast of Texas, lack of PokeStops and all.

There’s little Niantic could do to improve the map of Pokemon Go. Players want it to be as flat as possible so they can see all of the game world’s important elements, like wild Pokemon or Gyms. This means that only people who live in unique areas will get a map that’s not just a grid or a massive white or green plain.
