Pokemon Go player baffled after being cornered in Foongus “ritual”

Brianna Reeves

A Pokemon Go player has shared their surprise at finding themselves cornered by a bunch of Foongus creatures.

Foongus constitutes a grass/poison-type creature that recently took center stage in POGO. On January 30, developer Niantic hosted a Foongus Spotlight Hour in-game that saw the pocket monster spawn in large numbers for a limited time.

Trainers who played during this period were rewarded 2x Stardust when catching Pokemon, a boon that few wanted to miss.

Still, one player was shocked when a group of Foonguses (Foongi?) suddenly surrounded them in the mobile adventure.

Foongus in Pokemon Go close in on shocked Trainer

Reddit user -LORD-EGG- uploaded a screenshot of their Trainer being cornered by a small pack of pocket monsters in Pokemon Go.

Fortunately, the creatures – three Foongus ‘mon – didn’t pose too much of a threat. But the Redditor couldn’t help but wonder if this represented some “sort of ritual.”

The responses in the thread were quickly filled with fungus-related jokes. Reads one well-liked reply, “You should be fine. They look like fun guys.”

Another popular comment says, “Not mushroom there for anything else!”

Jokes aside, several Pokemon Go players chimed in to explain why Foongus were roaming the land in abundance all of a sudden. The fault lies with the aforementioned Spotlight Hour, which runs every Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time.

Subsequent replies from the original poster show they were unaware that Foongus counted as this week’s featured Pokemon. “There is an event? I thought I was going crazy,” the user wrote in response to one explanation.

Hopefully, not everyone was shaken when tiny mushrooms randomly started cropping up in-game.
