Pokemon Go fans call out players for deleting Friends with no Nice Throws

Philip Trahan

Some Pokemon Go players have called out community members for deleting players from their Friends List for not making enough Nice Throws during the 2024 Lunar New Year Global Challenge.

As many Pokemon Go fans know, the 2024 Lunar New Year event is currently underway. This event features plenty of Dragon Pokemon like Dratini, Noibat, and Drampa for players to catch.

However, the event also brought with it a massive Global Challenge for trainers all over the world to complete: Make 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws.

While many are hard at work trying to complete this challenge, it seems to have caused some in-fighting in the community as some players have deleted Friends who haven’t contributed enough Nice Throws.

Pokemon Go players delete Friends over Nice Throw count

A post on the Pokemon Go subreddit called out these players in a thread titled, “Do not delete friends that do not show to have nice throws for the [Global] challenge.”

Essentially, the OP called out some members of the community who have claimed to have deleted members of their Friends List for not making enough Nice Throws, as it showed they were “inactive.”

According to the trainer, “Not [only] just is it an a**hole move to do so if someone just has IRL things going on, not playing for a day, sick, etc…It also DOES NOT SHOW friends that DO HAVE Nice Throws!”

Many in the comments agreed with the OP’s outrage. “Exactly. Not participating does not mean not active,” argued one trainer. “Always delete friends based on your play preferences. For me, my friend’s list is always full so I give nicknames to friends with our last interaction date…”

The conversation also reignited many fans’ desire to have better communication through the Friends List. “We need a better way to tell who’s active and who’s not anyways. So-and-so caught whatever 2 days ago?! What a joke,” said one trainer.

Another fan noted that since many trainers use auto-catchers this line of thinking for deleting Friends was misguided.

While it seems like the Global Challenge will be completed with time to spare at the time of writing, it seems this debacle has certainly got many members of the Pokemon Go community up in arms.
