PlayStation Announces Exciting State of Play Event: Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, PS VR2 Games, and Beyond Revealed

Sony is gearing up to host an exciting State of Play event this week. PlayStation recently announced on Twitter that the focus of the presentation will be on five new PS VR2 titles, including entries from indie and third-party developers. However, the main highlight of the event is undoubtedly the extended showcase of the highly anticipated game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Developer Rocksteady Studios has yet to reveal any raw gameplay footage or provide detailed information about the game’s co-op mechanics.

The upcoming State of Play will be streamed live on PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. The event is scheduled for February 24 at 2:30 am IST in India and February 23 at 1 pm PT in the US.

Since stepping away from E3 in 2019, PlayStation has favored these digital-only State of Play events as a platform to showcase their upcoming games. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, originally planned for a 2022 release, has faced multiple delays. However, it finally settled on a May 26 launch date, which was announced at The Game Awards 2022. In the game, players assume the role of one of the four lead characters from Task Force X – Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark. Together, they embark on a mission to save the world by taking down the Justice League, who have fallen under the mind control of Brainiac. The game is set in an open-world Metropolis, where players can choose to play solo or team up with three others in online co-op mode. The characters have unique skills and traversal mechanics, such as Quinn’s reliance on a grappling hook and Boomerang’s ability to teleport using his signature weapons.

A leaked screenshot from last month suggested that Rocksteady Studios had incorporated a battle pass system and menu elements typically found in live-service titles. However, a development source clarified that all unlocks would be cosmetic, and character abilities could be upgraded through gameplay experience points. Fans expressed disappointment with these changes as they were expecting a standalone linear story experience with co-op mechanics as an additional feature. Some even speculated that creative conflicts might have led to the departure of Rocksteady Studios’ co-founders and former studio heads, Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker, from the company in October.

In addition to the showcase of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, PlayStation will also provide a glimpse of five new PS VR2 titles set to launch later this year. The next-generation virtual reality headset has already launched, along with highly anticipated VR titles like Guerilla Games’ Horizon Call of the Mountain and Sony’s racing simulation game Gran Turismo 7. However, there is no information yet about a launch in India.

PlayStation has been offering exciting perks to its subscribers, such as a three-hour free trial of God of War Ragnarök for PS Plus Deluxe/Premium subscribers. The subscription, which costs Rs. 849 per month, also grants access to acclaimed games like Horizon Forbidden West and a range of third-party titles, including Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Borderlands 3.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be released on May 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Don’t miss the State of Play event on February 24 at 2:30 am IST / February 23 at 1 pm PT.
