Pixel 8 Has a Strange Scrolling Issue, But Google Says Users Will Have to Wait For a Fix Until Later This Year

Google has gradually improved the Pixel lineup, with a handful of design changes and feature upgrades coming every year. The Pixel 8 lineup was specifically received pretty well in the smartphone industry, but the company failed to deliver when it comes to the ongoing stuttering and scrolling issues. Note that the scrolling issues on Pixel phones have existed for a while, and the company has taken note of it, but it says that the fix will arrive with the launch of Android 15.

Google Will Fix The Ongoing Stuttering Scrolling Issue on The Pixel 8, But Users Will Have to Wait for Android 15

Scrolling issues on Google Pixel phones have existed for years, and the Pixel 8 series is no exception. It appears that the issues rest in the software, as the company is readying Android 15 with a fix. However, it is strange to see that the company has taken years to devise a fix for the issue. A year-old thread on the Issue Tracker has gathered hundreds of comments from Pixel owners, specifically from Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users, suggesting that the devices are stuttering now and then. The issue persists on a system level as well as within third-party apps, which appears to be creating a negative user experience.

While the ongoing issue remains without a fix at this stage, Google shared its side of the story on the thread, stating that the company is working to fix the stuttering and scrolling issue on Pixel 8 and older models with the next Android release, which we presume is Android 15 (via Android Police).

Ongoing optimizations in performance and power are slated for the next Android release.

These include improvements positively impacting overall system UI jank as well as use cases tied to some Android applications.

At this point, Google has released the second developer preview of Android 15, which tells us that the update is months away from launch. Similar to last year, we suspect that the company will release Android 15 to the general public on all compatible Pixel phones in October. Another thing to note here is that this is not the first time Google has taken note of the issue, as the company also released updates in the past to fix the scrolling issue. Henceforth, despite the company’s claims, be sure to take the news with a pinch of salt.

As mentioned, Google is gradually improving its Pixel-branded smartphones to better compete against the likes of the Galaxy-branded flagships and the new iPhone models. While the display on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is pretty great, the stuttering and scrolling issue appears to disrupt the user experience. Do you think Google will finally fix the scrolling issue on the Pixel 8 and older models for good this year?
