Phones Banned In Delhi Schools: Read the advisory on mobile phones being banned in New Delhi private, government schools

The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has introduced a new advisory that prohibits the use of smartphones in schools. This advisory applies to both private and government schools. Additionally, the Directorate has urged teachers and school staff members to avoid using mobile phones in classrooms, libraries, school labs, and playgrounds.

“Therefore, the use of mobile phones in school premises needs to be regulated. All stakeholders involved in school education, including students, parents, teachers, and school heads, must agree upon limiting the use of mobile phones to create a more meaningful learning environment in the classroom,” stated the advisory by DoE.

The Directorate of Education has also requested parents to ensure that their children do not bring mobile phones onto school premises. If students do carry mobile phones to school, the school must provide appropriate arrangements for safely storing the devices.

Mobile phones have become one of the most commonly used gadgets in today’s society, regardless of whether individuals are students, teachers, professionals, or others. It is important for us to reflect on our over-dependence on technological interventions, as excessive smartphone use can lead to negative consequences such as increased levels of depression, anxiety, social isolation, hyperactivity, hypertension, sleep loss, and poor eyesight. It can also cause distractions during the learning process and negatively impact academic performance, life satisfaction, face-to-face conversation quality, and interpersonal connections. Furthermore, incidents of bullying, harassment, explicit image transmission, and inappropriate content sharing are potential negatives that can harm both the social fabric and the future of children.

Therefore, the use of mobile phones in school premises needs to be regulated. All stakeholders involved in school education, including students, parents, teachers, and school heads, should collectively agree on the minimum use of mobile phones in order to maintain a more meaningful learning atmosphere and improve the overall school environment for students.

Parents are therefore requested to ensure that their children do not bring mobile phones onto school premises. If students do bring mobile phones to school, the school authorities should provide secure storage arrangements, such as lockers or other systems, where the devices can be safely stored and returned to students upon leaving the school. Mobile phones should strictly not be allowed in classrooms. Additionally, teachers and other staff members are prohibited from using mobile phones during teaching activities, both inside and outside the classrooms, including playgrounds, laboratories, and libraries.

The school authorities may provide dedicated helpline numbers to parents and students for emergency communication.

Therefore, all Heads of Schools of both government and private recognized schools in Delhi are advised to disseminate this information to all students, parents, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff, and take necessary actions accordingly.
