Peter Jackson’s Previously Banned R-Rated Film Unexpectedly Resurfaces in Public Awareness

Peter Jackson is widely recognized as the creative genius behind one of the most celebrated movie trilogies in history a timeless masterpiece that showcases his unparalleled craftsmanship. But prior to undertaking the monumental task of adapting “The Lord of the Rings,” this cinematic icon from New Zealand had a penchant for incredibly absurd, outrageously crude, and ironically terrible films that would either leave you in stitches or have you cringing in disbelief.

And we’re not exaggerating here. Jackson kickstarted his career with a film aptly titled “Bad Taste” – a sci-fi satirical comedy horror parody that embodies everything one might consider repulsive. However, it’s important to note that Jackson intentionally creates this tastelessness.

Following his unforgettable foray into bad taste, he ventured to create a movie so controversial that it was banned in Ireland. Enter “Meet the Feebles” – a black comedy muppet film that shamelessly explores every risqué element imaginable. In fact, words alone cannot adequately capture the sheer reprehensibility of “Feebles,” so you’ll have to witness it firsthand, if you dare. Or perhaps it’s best for the sake of your sanity that you don’t.

Now, after 34 years since the infamous release of “Meet the Feebles,” this cult classic has resurfaced on Twitter, thanks to “The Muppets Mayhem.” Fans are flocking to celebrate this unconventional masterpiece, ironically during an era where a creative individual could be canceled for a fraction of the audacity displayed within its 100-minute runtime.

It’s evident that there is genuine adoration for “Meet the Feebles.”

Just to provide some perspective, there are only a select few works banned in Ireland, and Peter Jackson’s second film happens to be one of them. The 1999 sexually explicit arthouse film titled “Romance” joins the ranks. Yes, “Feebles” is officially on par with “Romance” in terms of its provocative elements.

If one didn’t know any better, they might assume that Jackson sought to compensate for his earlier films with “The Lord of the Rings.” However, we do know better, and it’s safe to wager our last dime that he remains immensely proud of both “Bad Taste” and “Meet the Feebles” to this day.
