Amidst the announcement of Avatar 3’s delay, producer Jon Landau unveiled a new behind-the-scenes image from the highly anticipated film on his social media profiles. The photo showcases the immense amount of work that goes into each shot of James Cameron’s fantastical world to ensure that the visual effects are nothing short of spectacular. The image gives viewers a pre-visualization of the Na’vi character as seen through the digital filter.
The third installment of the Avatar franchise, which still remains untitled, will focus on the aftermath of the events in Avatar: The Way of Water. Fans had to wait thirteen long years to return to Pandora, but luckily, this delay won’t be as lengthy. Due to the complexity of the cutting-edge visual effects coupled with Disney’s distribution of the movie, Avatar has to adjust its schedule to accommodate other blockbuster releases.
The sequel follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they raise their children in peace on Pandora. However, their idyllic life is shattered by the return of the humans, who are now interested in colonizing the moon. Jake and the Na’vi tribe must once again work tirelessly to protect their natural resources and way of life.
A bitter rivalry will soon be revived between Jake and his old nemesis, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). Although Neytiri killed Quaritch in the first movie, scientists carefully preserved his memories and personality to install them into avatars. The stage is set for an enthralling showdown between the two foes when Avatar 3 finally premieres in cinemas on December 19, 2025.
