Optimus Prime Confronts a Formidable Enemy

In a newly-released deleted scene from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Optimus Prime engages in an epic battle with the bus-based Decepticon Transit. Director Steven Caple Jr. decided to cut the scene from the final film due to its dark tone, as test audiences found it too intense.

The scene, shared by IGN, features Autobot leader Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) facing off against the Decepticon warrior Transit (played by John DiMaggio). Transit transforms into a city bus, which is a less glamorous alternate mode compared to other Transformers. The clip showcases their intense fight in a bus depot, with animation varying from preliminary to nearly-complete. Originally, the scene was supposed to end with Prime killing Transit and disposing of his body in the Hudson River, where numerous other slain Decepticons had met their end at the hands of the legendary Autobot. However, after screening the scene, Caple Jr. realized that it was too dark for the overall tone of the film, leading them to pull back and ultimately cut the scene. Despite being removed, DiMaggio is still credited for his role as Transit in the closing credits.

Who Is Transit?

In the extensive Transformers canon, Transit is a relatively lesser-known character who has appeared twice in different comic book adaptations published by IDW. Similar to his big-screen counterpart, Transit is a Decepticon who transforms into a bus. However, in one comic issue, his alternate mode is a slightly more exotic British double-decker bus. In the movie, Transit would have been the only living Decepticon, making it the first Transformers film without any traditional Cybertronian villains. Instead, the heroic Autobots and Maximals of the film confront the fearsome Terrorcons, who serve the world-devouring space god Unicron. This would have marked Transit’s on-screen debut, with DiMaggio reprising his role as the voice actor. DiMaggio is no stranger to the Transformers franchise, having previously voiced Leadfoot in Dark of the Moon, Crosshairs in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight, and Stratosphere in Rise of the Beasts.
