Only Way Senior Dog Will Eat Dinner Has Internet in Hysterics

All dogs need love and encouragement from their owners, but one, in particular, loves words of affirmation so much that he won’t even eat without his owner singing his praises.

In a post shared on TikTok on Saturday by the dog’s owner, under the username @danntdevitosstuntdouble, the senior canine can be seen eating his dinner from the bowl as his owner calls him a good boy. However, as soon as she stops the compliments, the dog stops eating, only starting again when she resumes the praises.

The heartwarming clip comes with a caption that reads: “My senior dog will retrieve me from my bedroom so I can stand beside him while he eats and I must shower him with words of affirmation or he will abruptly stop.” It is followed by: “400 good boys later and he finished the bowl.”

Animals don’t experience time the same we do. Dogs are considered senior when they’re around 5 years old, or 7 if they are small-sized.

Just like humans, though, their health may start deteriorating as they age That’s why, if you want them to live a long and happy life, you should make sure they are in the best physical and mental shape.

Freeland Animal Hospital says that you should get orthopedic beds for senior dogs, to help make them as comfortable as possible.

While most pet owners say it is easier to adopt a senior dog, since they will most likely be already potty-trained and well behaved, they are still typically the last to be adopted at shelters, if at all.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received almost 1 million views and more than 233,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Heather Rose, commented: “Our dog did this when she became old, wouldn’t eat without my mom watching. I’d give 10 years off my life for one more dinner watch.”

Maria Henry wrote: “What if you just think he likes this but he just thinks you like this.” And Moose added: “He needs somebody to watch his back because his senses aren’t what they used to be.”

Miss.Capricorn posted: “When mine is done everyone in the house has to clap.” And vans_drumm commented: “For senior dogs, whatever they want is whatever we do. Those are the rules.”
