ONDC Unveils New Academy to Educate Sellers and Network Participants

The Government’s groundbreaking initiative, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), has joined forces with a subsidiary of the esteemed National Stock Exchange to launch a cutting-edge academy. This academy will serve as a vital resource, equipping sellers and network participants with invaluable knowledge on how to navigate the world of e-commerce seamlessly.

In its initial phase, the ONDC Academy will deliver comprehensive learning content in both written and video formats. Sellers will gain invaluable insights into efficiently managing their operations on the ONDC platform, as emphasized by Sanjiv, Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

To illustrate the effectiveness of this academy, Sanjiv provided an enlightening example. Even an e-commerce novice residing in a rural setting can learn how to create a seller app without any technical expertise. Through a technology service provider, all nearby marketplace sellers can be consolidated, conveniently making their products available online.

The ONDC Academy is the result of a collaboration between ONDC and NSE Academy Ltd, a subsidiary of the esteemed National Stock Exchange. Each step of the onboarding process and associated activities has been transformed into interactive videos that effectively convey the necessary information, as stated by Sanjiv.

In the realm of e-commerce, key stakeholders include sellers, buyer apps, and logistics providers. The academy acts as an invaluable repository of educational and informative content delivered in both written and video formats. Its primary objective is to offer a curated learning experience, guiding individuals towards a successful e-commerce journey with minimal setbacks, offering valuable insights and best practices. Sanjiv further emphasized that as the academy expands, it will cater to various roles within ONDC and be available in multiple Indian languages.

Through the ONDC Academy, sellers and network participants gain the power to make informed decisions. They are equipped with the best practices necessary to efficiently manage their online businesses. Industry experts contribute content, and a forum is established for seeking expert opinions.

Furthermore, the academy offers certification issued by NSE Academy to individuals who complete the institute’s assessment, validating their comprehensive understanding of managing operations across the network. This certification serves as a badge of proficiency and credibility.

T Koshy, the Chief Executive Officer of ONDC, expressed great enthusiasm for the learning modules that will address a diverse range of roles within the network. These modules will incorporate interactive videos and learning materials, providing comprehensive education on the nuances of digital commerce in multiple Indian languages.

Established in December 2021, ONDC is a Section 8 company and a DPIIT initiative. Its purpose is to create a facilitative platform that empowers small retailers to leverage the opportunities presented by digital commerce. It is important to note that ONDC is not an application, platform, intermediary, or software. Instead, it is a set of specifications specifically designed to cultivate open, unbundled, and interoperable open networks.
