Valve has brought an official Steam Link app to Meta Quest headsets. Available on the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro, Steam Link appears to have replaced existing solutions like Air Link and Virtual Desktop.

Valve’s public attention of late has been focused on the Steam Deck, with the company releasing a new OLED model less than a month ago. Nonetheless, it appears to have been working on a new VR headset, which is currently referred to online as ‘Deckard’. While Valve has not officially commented on releasing a Valve Index successor yet, it has brought improved Steam compatibility to competing headsets with a new official Steam Link app.

Specifically, Valve has shipped a Steam Link app for Meta, which is available on the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro. However, the app also requires a PC running Windows 10, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 and an Intel Core i5-4590/AMD FX 8350 or newer. Moreover, Valve recommends 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce RTX 2070 or better, plus a router that supports Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E, as well as a computer using a wired network connection.

According to Valve’s release notes, the Steam Link can interpret eye tracking and natural facial expressions, too. At the time of writing, Valve’s new software has been well received, with an average of almost four stars maintained across over two hundred reviews. Seemingly, Steam Link delivers superior video fidelity and an improved gaming experience compared to Virtual Desktop and Air Link, two existing options for Steam VR gaming on a Meta headset.
