No Major Time Leap for Season 2 of ‘The Diplomat’

The series starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell has been renewed for a second season shortly after its premiere on Netflix.

One of Netflix’s recent additions, the political thriller The Diplomat, has been renewed for a second season following its successful debut. The show ranked number one on Netflix’s global Top 10 TV list, making the decision to renew an easy one.

The Diplomat follows the story of Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), who becomes the American Ambassador to the UK and moves to London with her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell). Despite her reservations about the role, they navigate diplomatic challenges and personal conflicts throughout the eight-episode first season. The season finale, “The James Bond Clause,” ends with a shocking conspiracy and a bomb attack.

According to TV Line, the second season of The Diplomat will continue the story without a time jump, picking up where it left off. The compressed timeline of the show, with only three weeks passing in Season 1, justifies this decision. Fans can expect the crisis to unfold further when the series returns in 2024.
