Niantic Announces the Return Festival of Lights Event for November 7

Pokemon GO, Niantic’s augmented reality-based free-to-play title, has been going strong since it came out in 2016. The only way it has been able to retain players is by bringing them new content frequently which helps keep the masses immersed. Niantic has just announced that a beloved event called Festival of Lights will be returning in November, here’s what to expect from it.

Pokemon GO Festival of Lights

The Pokemon GO Festival of Lights event will kick off on November 7, 10:00 AM local time, and end on November 12, 8:00 PM local time. During that time frame, players can expect some Pokemon debuts, event bonuses, timed research, new wild encounters, increased incense encounters, field research task encounters, Pokestop showcases, new Pokestop showcases, avatar items, 7km eggs, and a Raid Day on November 11.

The Pokemon debuts include Tadbulb and Bellibot and the event bonuses are 2x Stardust and 2x candy for hatching Pokemon along with 2x incense that will last twice as long during the event. Players will come across wild encounters such as Pikachu, Vulpix, Ponyta, Magnemite, Voltorb, Chinchou, Mareep, Slugma, Electrike, Litwick, Morelull (Shiny variant too), and Tadbulb.

Going to increased incense encounters, these will include Alolan Geodude, Hisuian Voltorb, Slugma, Volbeat, Illumise, Blitzie, Litwick, Litleo, Dedenne, Morelull and Tadbulb. Pokemon GO Players Are Getting Banned for Adding Wayspots that Do Not Meet the Criteria

For those who do not know, Niantic has a companion app for all their AR-based titles called Wayfarer. Through this tool, experienced players are able to provide new wayspots for the community to try out. However, Niantic has also been dealing with a bunch of Wayfarer abuse recently, with certain players entering fake nominations and photos, promoting hateful or harmful content, and other such things.

Niantic recently revealed the steps they would be taking to curb this process. The first step is a warning, the second step is a 30-day ban, the third step is a 90-day ban, and the fourth and final step is a 3650-day suspension, which totals almost 10 years. However, players have been reporting that are being banned for no fault of their own.

Spotted on the r/pokemongo, a user has posted their email exchange with Niantic and how without them doing anything, their ban went from step 2 to step 3, which is essentially an extension of the ban to 90 days. The reason for this ban is that their nominations didn’t meet the criteria set by Niantic.

Interestingly, Niantic’s first email to the user only mentioned a 30-day ban, but when the user tried to access Wayfarer, they realized the ban was still ongoing. When they tried to get through to Niantic about this issue, the developer replied stating that the ban was originally for a 90-day period only, and the 30-day suspension written in the mail was a ‘typo’. This definitely infuriated the player and other members of the community.
