A Welcoming Update for Players
Square-Enix has just released patch 1.03 for their latest sensation, Final Fantasy XVI. This update primarily focuses on enhancing the overall gaming experience with several quality-of-life improvements. However, it also introduces a particularly delightful feature that allows players to lessen or completely disable motion blur. Rejoice in the triumph of clear and crisp visuals!
Motion blur is a contemporary visual effect that garners mixed opinions. Personally, I’m not a fan of it except in racing games. Generally, it’s one of those effects that developers should give players the ability to toggle off. While it can add a stylish touch, it can also distort and mar the visuals, making them appear smudged and unattractive.
Additionally, when I need to capture screenshots, using a game with intense motion blur often results in unusable shots. As a workaround, I usually record gameplay footage and extract screenshots from there, which often requires painstakingly searching for a frame without smearing.
Getting Into the Details
Now, let’s explore the concise and informative patch notes provided by Square-Enix. You can find them here:
- The System tab in the Main Menu now includes the following options:
- Motion Blur Strength: Adjusts the intensity of the motion blur effect when the character or camera is in motion. The default setting is the maximum value of 5. Players can reduce the strength or completely turn off the effect by setting it to a lower value or 0, respectively.
- Player Follow (Movement)
- Player Follow (Attack): Disabling these settings prevents the camera from automatically following the player during movement and attacks.
- The maximum setting for Camera Sensitivity (Horizontal) and Camera Sensitivity (Vertical) has been increased from 10 to 20.
- Three new controller layouts, types D, E, and F, have been added.
- A fix has been implemented for menu stability issues.
- Text-related problems have been rectified.
- When sharing screenshots or video clips on Twitter or YouTube, players can now include the hashtag #FF16.
Since I haven’t had the opportunity to play Final Fantasy XVI yet (it’s on my to-do list), these updates may not have much significance for me personally. Nevertheless, providing players with more customization options is always a positive move.
Final Fantasy XVI is currently available for PlayStation 5.
