New Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Mod Adds Custom Resolutions, Ultrawide Support & More to MGS 2 and MGS3

A new Metal Gear Solid Master Collection mod adds custom resolution, ultrawide support, and more to both Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.

Some weeks ago we reported on AI-upscaled HD texture packs for both titles in the collection, and we now wanted to share another interesting mod that PC players will appreciate. Created by modder ‘Lyall’, the “MGSHDFIX” mod adds several new features to Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Unfortunately, the first entry in the Metal Gear Solid series isn’t supported at the moment.

The main features of this mod include support for custom resolutions and ultrawide support. An experimental 16:9 HUD option within Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 that resizes the HUD and movies. Increased texture size limits as well as the option to skip logos. Adjustments to mouse sensitivity within Snake Eater alongside a mouse cursor toggle (in Metal Gear 1/2 and MGS 2 and 3). Also included is a borderless/windowed mode and adjustable anisotropic filtering within Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.

PC players who want to give this mod a try can download and install it through Nexusmods here. On the description page of the mod, you’ll find installation and configuration instructions as well as known issues when using the mod, including some visual issues as well as some issues related to the strength of post-processing at higher resolutions.

Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection Vol. 1 is available globally now across PCs and consoles (including the Switch). As covered recently, references to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain have been discovered in the game files of The Master Collection Vol. 1, suggesting that these titles might be part of The Master Collection Vol. 2. We’ll update you as soon as more information about a second Master Collection volume comes in. For now, stay tuned.
