The summer movie season is here, and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Heart of Stone, an upcoming spy thriller featuring Gal Gadot as the lead. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Tom Harper revealed that they are hoping to create a fully-fledged franchise with the film and offered insight into what audiences can expect.
“What stood out to me was that it was an original film in a genre saturated with great franchises that have been around for decades. I loved working on something that added to the genre while offering an original perspective. I also appreciated having a female protagonist at the heart of it,” said Harper.
The director stressed the importance of having a female lead in an action franchise, saying that it was long overdue and that the character needed to be a woman responding differently, rather than just a female version of a typical male character.
In addition to the interview, Entertainment Weekly revealed brand-new images featuring Gadot as Rachel Stone, an MI6 agent with a secret bigger than her career. Alongside her team, played by Jing Lusi, Paul Ready, and Jamie Dornan, Stone must protect the Heart, the most valuable and dangerous asset of the ultra-mysterious global peace-keeping organization, the Charter.
Gadot, known for her roles in Wonder Woman and Red Notice, can now add Heart of Stone to her list of action films. As the DC Universe heads toward a reboot, Gadot will also star in Disney’s live-action Snow White remake and the in-development Cleopatra film.
