Teenage Engineering’s latest addition to their Field series is the TP-7 field recorder. Designed to provide “zero friction” and high-quality audio for recording music, interviews, and other audio media, this device comes with a hefty price tag of $1,499 USD (approximately $2,021 CAD). Teenage Engineering is hoping to back up its claims with the TP-7’s audio quality.
The TP-7, along with the TX-6 mixer and the OP-1 synthesizer, is a part of the company’s Field series. About the size of a deck of cards, the recorder has a motorized tape reel at its center. This allows users to pause recordings, listen to playback, and navigate the device’s menu. The TP-7 has a built-in microphone and speaker, and users can choose between using the built-in microphone or an external mic. The device also has three two-way jacks.
An additional feature is the USB-C port for data transfer and charging. Users can access transcriptions via the USB-C port and the company’s iOS app when connected to an iPhone. The TP-7 can hold a charge for seven hours and boasts 128GB of internal storage. The device will be available later this summer for $1,499 USD. However, it is unclear whether the device will be released in Canada.
