New Gameplay Trailer Released for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Coming in October

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has finally been given a release date. Ubisoft, during the recent PlayStation Showcase event, announced that this installment, set in Baghdad, will be available on October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Interestingly, the release date had already been leaked by a few Japanese retailers, which is unusual as they usually don’t provide placeholder dates. Originally intended as an expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and codenamed ‘Rift,’ Assassin’s Creed Mirage evolved into a standalone release in order to fill the gap in Ubisoft’s launch schedule for the fiscal year. Development of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is being led by Ubisoft Bordeaux, and a gameplay trailer was unveiled during the showcase.

As previously reported, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is returning to its franchise roots, focusing on strategic assassinations rather than the open-world RPG elements that have been embraced in recent entries. The game follows the story of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character introduced in AC: Valhalla, as he employs his skills to track down and eliminate targets. In the cinematic trailer from last year, Basim is shown being initiated into the Hidden Ones clan by his mentor Roshan (portrayed by Shohreh Aghdashloo), transforming from a petty thief into an assassin. The new footage seems to take place after these events, showcasing the signature features of the original Assassin’s Creed games, such as air assassinations, hidden blades, and the art of blending with crowds, as Basim hones his craft.

“With your death, you are reborn,” says Roshan in a voiceover, as we witness the resurrection of the parkour system, with Basim gracefully traversing metallic bars and turning corners during his acrobatic movements. A new addition called Pole Vault allows players to perch on top of a tall pole, using its center of gravity to tilt and descend over longer distances in the air. Smoke bombs, leaps of faith, and stealth mechanics like pickpocketing are reintroduced, while a character in the Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay trailer suggests various approaches, including bribing guards or discreetly infiltrating establishments. The presence of a day and night cycle is also hinted at, potentially allowing Basim to manipulate it by resting in beds, similar to the mechanic in Dying Light.

The gameplay trailer concludes with an intense display of action sequences, showcasing Basim expertly wielding a combination of a dagger and curved sword to defeat his enemies. Though the specifics of their use remain unclear, it can be assumed that the dagger is utilized for parrying incoming attacks. Ubisoft has also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, now available for pre-order on all platforms, will feature Arabic voiceovers and full localization. Additionally, those who pre-order will receive an exclusive bonus quest at launch called ‘The Forty Thieves,’ allowing players to uncover Ali Baba’s cave. It makes one wonder if the password for entry will be ‘open sesame’ as well.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released on October 12 for PC (through the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Pre-ordering is now available.
