NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – The New Bern police department and the North Carolina Department of Justice have announced that they will be teaming up to offer two free training sessions designed to help protect seniors from financial and other internet scams.
Police say that the sessions are designed for seniors as well as parents, guardians, and caregivers.
Both session will be held at West New Bern Recreation Center, located at 1225 Pine Tree Drive on Tuesday, March 12.
The financial scam training will start 9 a.m. and will explain what people need to look for, which types of scams are most popular today, how to protect your personal information, and what to do if you think that someone may have done something fraudulent with your finances.
Police also offered access to the justice department’s online senior scam guide as well.
Parents or caregivers can benefit from the internet safety training session that will start later in the day at 6 p.m. In this session, parents and caregivers can learn the best way to protect kids from internet predators and how to teach them safe surfing on the internet. Representatives will share information on social media risks and threatening behavior on the internet.
