New Apple Leak Reveals All-New iPhone Design

Following a longer-than-expected wait, Apple looks set to launch a brand new iPhone SE, but there’s still time to wait before the powerful smartphone arrives.

The details come from noted Apple commentator Nguyen Phi Hung, who is reporting on the specs of the next iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE is Apple’s concession to the mid-range market and complements the vanilla and Pro iPhones that receive yearly hardware updates. The iPhone SE family has seen three updates since its debut in 2016

The iPhone SE typically offers older components and hardware while providing the latest software and services – at least as far as the hardware can accommodate it. That might be a bigger issue for the iPhone SE 4 than others.

With an expected launch date of early 2025, the SE will be measured against Android smartphones that will be drenched in AI capabilities. While Apple is on course to present its vision of AI at the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference in June, it is expected that new Apple Silicon will be required to leverage the on-device AI capabilities through custom hardware dedicated to LLM and Generative AI.

If the iPhone SE does rely on an older chipset, Apple may be forced to offload more AI processes into the cloud. I expect Tim Cook and his team to make a big play about the privacy of on-device AI, which leads to an interesting conundrum for the iPhone SE design team. Do they go for cheaper or for capabilities?

Certainly, the other details from Phi Hung show that the iPhone SE tradition of using components and design cues from previous iPhone models is alive and well because the SE looks remarkably like the iPhone 13; it has a single main camera lens, a 6.1-inch OLED display, and use glass for the front and back of the phone.

The community has been waiting for the iPhone SE to be updated. Yes, there has been a delay, but I wonder if this is due to Apple wanting to wait until AI could be included in a phone that will likely have a shelf life of three years. Nevertheless, those looking for a cheaper iPhone have something to look forward to in 2025.
