Although Heart of Stone and Barbie are vastly different in almost every aspect, the majority of the key creatives involved in the film, starring Gal Gadot, have emphasized that it will actively defy the norms and expectations of the spy genre. However, they seem to have forgotten about Angelina Jolie’s Salt.
The latest opinion comes from Jamie Dornan, who discussed what sets Heart of Stone apart from the many spy-themed shoot ’em up films in an interview with Digital Spy.
“It represents the direction we should be heading in after decades of male-dominated spy thrillers. It’s time to disrupt the norm and not have female characters in these movies merely serve as eye candy. Mainstream cinema is gradually granting women more opportunities to lead such films. Gal Gadot has been a pioneer in this movement, and it’s a positive development.”
The true test of Heart of Stone‘s quality will be if it can break away from Netflix’s track record of producing expensive yet disappointing action films. However, it’s expected that there will be several vehement keyboard warriors determined to tear it down at any cost.
