Recently, fans got their first glimpse of Assassin’s Creed Mirage during the PlayStation Showcase, and while the gameplay was well-received, some expressed concerns over the game’s visual presentation and whether it would truly be a throwback to the original AC Trilogy. However, Ubisoft recently released a new Assassin’s Creed Mirage developer video that may allay some concerns and change a few minds. The developers, Ubisoft Bordeaux and Ubisoft Montreal, seem to be making a concerted effort to recapture the feel of the original AC Trilogy with a renewed focus on parkour and stealthy assassinations.
Although Assassin’s Creed Mirage utilizes the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla engine, Ubisoft has overhauled Basim’s movement and made him faster, more agile, and parkour much smoother. The game has many of the old moves from past games, such as corner swing, ability to vault over objects or elevators to quickly reach high ground, while also introducing new animations like pole vault, allowing players to cross large gaps between two rooftops. Enemy AI has also been revamped to make guard behaviors more responsive and readable.
Moreover, Ubisoft has emphasized stealth gameplay this time around, encouraging avoidance of head-on battles in favor of assassinations. Assassin’s Creed Mirage has an array of different assassination animations, and Ubisoft has pushed stealth further than it did in previous AC games, with enemy AI being smarter, able to detect the player even in haystacks and shoot down scouting eagles. In an exciting addition to the game, players can hire a group of people to move around with them to sneak into areas where crowds aren’t already available.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to release on October 12, and fans are eager to kick it old-school in Baghdad.
