With the release of Fast X this spring, the Fast Saga pushed the boundaries of the franchise. Bringing together characters from throughout the series, the tenth installment placed Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family in unprecedented danger orchestrated by Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) and his quest for vengeance. Prior to the film’s digital and physical release in August, Collider has the exclusive premiere of a behind-the-scenes look at a highly anticipated fight between Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron).
Producer Samantha Vincent describes the fight as a “battle royale” and director Louis Leterrier believes it highlights the essence of the characters. Given the animosity Letty holds towards Cipher for the destabilization of her family, it comes as no surprise that their encounter turns into an all-out brawl. “Letty’s pretty angry,” points out Rodriguez. Leterrier emphasizes that practical effects were used for every aspect of the fight, a sentiment echoed by Second Unit Director and Supervising Stunt Coordinator Olivier Schneider.
The clip also showcases Cipher’s action scene within her own headquarters, where she must fight against her own guards who have been turned against her by Reyes. This premise excited Theron. While the clip primarily focuses on the showdown between Letty and Cipher, the two characters ultimately form an uneasy alliance in the film. They escape the black site they were held captive in and are rescued from the freezing temperatures of Antarctica by none other than Gisele (Gal Gadot), who appears to have miraculously returned from the dead.
