Michael Fassbender Looks Menacing in New ‘The Killer’ Image

The Big Picture

  • Michael Fassbender returns in his first film since Dark Phoenix, teaming up with David Fincher for the long-awaited project, The Killer.
  • The film, based on a graphic novel, follows a methodical assassin who questions his sanity as he waits for his next target.
  • The Killer will be released on Netflix in November, amidst a busy month of other notable releases headed to the cinema including The Marvels and Dune: Part Two.

Michael Fassbender is set to make his return to the big screen in his first film since the 2019 comic book movie Dark Phoenix. This time, he has teamed up with acclaimed director David Fincher for the highly anticipated project The Killer. Based on the graphic novel by Alexis Nolent and Luc Jacamon, the release of this movie has been a long time coming. The first volume of the series was published in 1998, and Fincher has been attached to the project since 2007. Finally, fans can catch a glimpse of the film with the release of a new image.

Fassbender leads an impressive cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, and Sophie Charlotte. The official synopsis for The Killer describes it as follows: “Solitary, cold, methodical, and unencumbered by scruples or regrets, a killer waits in the shadows, watching for his next target. Yet, the longer he waits, the more he thinks he’s losing his mind, if not his cool.” Netflix’s film chief Scott Stuber has expressed excitement about Fassbender’s performance, stating that he is a “giant star ready to explode in the world” and praising David Fincher’s ability to bring out the best in his actors.

The original plan was for Brad Pitt to star as the titular assassin, but Fassbender ultimately landed the role. The screenplay was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, who previously collaborated with Fincher on the acclaimed film Se7en. The film also reunites Fincher with cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, who won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for their work on Mank. Fincher’s wife, Ceán Chaffin, serves as a producer alongside William Doyle. Filming took place in Paris from November 2021 to March of the following year.

‘The Killer’ Will Release During a Busy Month

The film was originally set to be released by Paramount, but it will now premiere on Netflix as part of Fincher’s deal with the streaming service. Just like his previous film, Mank, The Killer will first debut at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 3 before becoming available on Netflix in November. It will be a month filled with highly anticipated releases, including The Marvels, Dune: Part Two, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel to The Hunger Games.

The Killer will be released on Netflix on November 10.
