WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, has taken a proactive approach in enforcing the new IT Rules 2021 in India. During the month of May, the company banned over 6.5 million accounts that violated these rules. This comes after taking action against more than 7.4 million problematic accounts in April. With a user base of over 500 million in India, WhatsApp received 3,912 grievance reports in May, addressing 297 of these cases.
The term “Accounts Actioned” refers to the reports in which WhatsApp took appropriate measures, including either banning or restoring accounts based on the reports. According to the company, this user-safety report provides details of the complaints received, the corresponding actions taken by WhatsApp, and the preventive measures implemented to combat abuse on the platform.
In the unfortunate event that your WhatsApp account gets banned, you will receive a message stating, “This account is not allowed to use WhatsApp.” If you believe that your account has been mistakenly banned, you have the option to email WhatsApp or request a review within the app. The review process requires entering a 6-digit registration code sent via SMS. Once submitted, you can provide additional details to support your case.
