Next Tuesday, May 14, is going to be an exciting day for Pokemon GO players, as that’s the day they will have the chance to earn their third Master Ball. Pokemon GO has so far given fans the chance to earn two Master Balls. One was through the Let’s GO! Special Research quest, while the while was for completing the Timed Investigation: Master Ball Quest or, if one missed out on that, the paid Special Research: Master Ball quest.

Niantic started teasing Pokemon GO players with a third Master Ball in early May, though initially didn’t reveal exactly when the highly sought-after item would be added to the game. All fans knew at the time was that the third Master Ball would be coming to Pokemon GO as part of the ongoing World of Wonders season, meaning it would most likely be available in the game before the end of May.

Niantic has since revealed that Pokemon GO will be adding the third Master Ball on May 14 as part of the Catching Wonders event. The event will run from May 14 at 10:00am until Sunday, May 19 at 8:00pm and will see the introduction of Masterwork Research: Catching Wonders. But while May 14 will mark the first time Pokemon GO players will have the chance to make progress on Masterwork Research: Catching Wonders, they don’t have to worry about completing it within the May 14 to May 19 window. The research does not expire.

Pokemon GO Catching Wonders Event Will Add a Third Master Ball to the Game

  • May 14 – May 19
  • Masterwork Research: Catching Wonders doesn’t expire
  • 10x XP and 5x Stardust for the first catch of the day
  • 10x XP for the first PokeStop or Gym spin of the day
  • Special event-themed Field Research tasks

The addition of the third Master Ball to Pokemon GO is the main reason why fans of the game should be excited for May 14 and the beginning of the Catching Wonders event, but there are other reasons to look forward to that day as well. On the same day, as part of the Catching Wonders event, Pokemon GO will also be giving out 10x XP and 5x Stardust for the first catch of the day, as well as 10x XP for the first PokeStop or Gym spin of the day. This should encourage Pokemon GO players to pop back into the game each day the Catching Wonders event is live.

What’s the Best Use for a Master Ball in Pokemon GO?

  • Some players like to use Master Balls on the Galarian legendary birds since they are hard to find and have a tendency to run away, while others reserve them for when they happen upon super-rare “Hundo” Pokemon with max stats.

On top of the Masterwork Research and the daily play bonuses, Pokemon GO fans can also look forward to special event-themed Field Research tasks starting May 14. Specifics on what those tasks will entail have not been shared by Niantic at the time of this writing, but it’s been promised that they will give fans the opportunity to earn Stardust, XP, Poke Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls. Needless to say, Pokemon GO players should definitely make sure that they check out the game on May 14.
