Lords of the Fallen Supports AMD FSR 3 Alongside NVIDIA DLSS 3

Lords of the Fallen, the Soulslike game developed by Hexworks for publisher CI Games and due to release this Friday, will be the second game to support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) and NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling 3 (DLSS 3) after Immortals of Aveum. This is a bit of a surprise, as there were no prior announcements from AMD, while NVIDIA only confirmed it earlier today.

The news comes directly from a review build of the game recently streamed by LIRIK on Twitch. At around 00:08:00 in the recording, you can see the following options in the display menu:

  • Window mode
  • Resolution
  • Resolution scale
  • Screen Calibration
  • HDR
  • VSync
  • FPS Limit
  • NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency
  • AMD FSR 3 toggle
  • FSR 3 Quality
  • FSR 3 Sharpness
  • NVIDIA DLSS toggle
  • DLSS Super Resolution
  • DLSS Sharpness
  • DLSS Frame Generation toggle
  • DLSS prefer NIS sharpen
  • NIS toggle
  • NIS Sharpness

The third to last option is peculiar, as it offers to combine DLSS with NVIDIA Image Scaling (NIS) sharpening to deliver better image quality. Very few games offer the same option. The DLSS Super Resolution quality slider allows users to pick native rendering augmented by AI (DLAA), too.

LIRIK’s Lords of the Fallen stream also provides a glimpse into the graphics settings menu, which mercifully includes a Chromatic Aberration toggle, unlike Assassin’s Creed Mirage at launch.

  • Auto-detect quality
  • Graphics preset
  • View distance
  • Shadows
  • Anti-aliasing
  • Texture quality
  • Visual effect quality
  • Post-processing quality
  • Reflection quality
  • Global illumination quality
  • Foliage quality
  • Motion blur
  • Film grain
  • Chromatic aberration

A preview of the kind of performance that can be expected in Lords of the Fallen with the frame generation upscalers was offered today by NVIDIA. At 4K with DLSS set to Performance mode, the RTX 4090 averages nearly 160 frames per second, the 4080 gets close to 140 frames per second, the 4070Ti breaks 105 frames per second, and the 4070 delivers 75 frames per second.

Of course, DLSS 3 is restricted to GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs, whereas FSR 3 can be used on AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series and higher, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series and higher, and Intel Arc 7 Series and higher GPUs. There was an attempt to enable it on the GeForce GTX 10 Series cards, but it’s not recommended.

As a reminder, Lords of the Fallen is powered by Unreal Engine 5, taking advantage of the Lumen and Nanite features. In an interview with Wccftech, the game’s developers described UE5 as a ‘huge leap’ in technology. They also confirmed that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X users will get to choose between 1440P@30FPS (Quality) or 1080P@60FPS (Performance) modes.
