Looking Glass unveils Looking Glass Go portable holographic display

Looking Glass has introduced Looking Glass Go, a portable holographic display merging high-resolution holograms and the creative prowess of AI.

Building on the triumph of Looking Glass Portrait, the desktop display that debuted on Kickstarter, Looking Glass said it is now extending the marvel of holographic displays into a compact, portable form factor.

Shrinking the holographic experience into a cell phone-sized device, Looking Glass Go promises an easier and more accessible way to convert 2D and 3D imagery, including characters generated by ChatGPT, into vivid, lifelike holographic projections.

Users can indulge in the 3D transformation of 2D photos, spatial images captured by Luma AI, and spatial art into realistic 3D holograms. Looking Glass Go enables them to share these experiences anywhere, anytime, and without the need for VR or AR headsets.

“Two major trends are converging: 3D spatial platforms and generative AI,” said Shawn Frayne, CEO of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Hong Kong-based Looking Glass, in a statement. “Fueled by Apple’s announcement of the Vision Pro, the spatial photo capabilities in the iPhone 15, and the prevalence of 3D game engines and more powerful GPUs, spatial platforms are on the rise.”

Frayne added, “At the same time, we’re seeing generative AI breathe life into 3D content creation. Looking Glass Go takes those two innovations and wraps them into an insanely compact system you can use anywhere. This is the future I grew up dreaming of, and I couldn’t be more excited for everyone to go into that future together.”

The company touted the following features:

Accessibility for All: Empowering tech enthusiasts, 3D creators, artists exploring generative AI, and innovative brands, Looking Glass Go pioneers spatial innovation accessible to millions. From reliving and sharing holographic memories to interactive conversations with customizable holographic characters, the device and AI suite of software unlock a realm of possibilities, the company said.

2D to 3D Transformation: Offering a seamless transition from 2D to 3D, Looking Glass said it breathes life into treasured images, enabling users to experience their beloved characters and moments in a vibrant holographic display.

AI Companion: Unveiling an innovative fusion of ChatGPT and Liteforms application, Looking Glass Go introduces a personal AI companion, allowing users to interact with holographic characters effortlessly, speaking English or Japanese initially, with expanded language support in the future.

Quantum Leap in Quality: The six-inch holographic display, nearly 10 times thinner than its predecessors, boasts twice the pixel density, crafting holograms with stunning realism and depth. Powered by revamped superstereoscopic optics, Looking Glass Go creates holographic projections that transcend the device boundaries, accommodating multiple viewers simultaneously.

User-Friendly and Powerful: Offering a user-friendly experience without necessitating programming or 3D modeling, Looking Glass Go enables easy conversion of 2D images into 3D holograms. For advanced users proficient in programming or 3D modeling, the device presents a canvas for profound creativity with potent plugins and libraries for Unity, Unreal (UE5), Blender, and WebXR.

Versatility: Whether at home, the office, or on the go, Looking Glass Go seamlessly plugs into PCs or Macs via USB-C. For mobile use, an additional battery ensures hours of uninterrupted holographic projection, the company said.
