This weekend marks the much-anticipated opening of the Mediterrane Film Festival in Valetta, Malta. This six-day extravaganza celebrates the art of film and brings together creatives from across the Mediterranean region. The competition section of the festival features nine films from the MED9 countries, including the highly acclaimed legal drama “Saint Omer” by Alice Diop, which was France’s official selection for the Best International Film category at the Academy Awards. Other noteworthy titles include Valerie Buhagiar’s “Carmen,” starring Natascha McElhone, and Juraj Lerotić’s “Safe Place,” which he directed and starred in.
A prestigious jury, led by Adrian Wooton OBE, CEO of Film London and the British Film Commission, will award the coveted Golden Bee Award to one of the nine competing films.
