Time for Biden to give notice
I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this — and I know this will be difficult to hear for many of my Democratic comrades — but it’s time for President Biden to step aside.
I will be forever grateful to Biden for saving our democracy. We are doing well and I still believe he can do the job. But in politics, perceptions matter more than reality. And the hard reality is the vast majority of Americans do not believe he is up to the task of a second term.
The president has lost considerable support in the three key demographics: young voters, minorities and independents. And he is way underwater with voters on three key issues: the economy, the Southern border, and foreign policy. Right or wrong, many Americans consider him old and feeble.
Biden is losing in just about every poll to every potential Republican candidate. Most concerning, polls show Donald Trump beating him in six of seven battleground states.
The bottom line, Democrats are running out of time to substitute a young, energetic candidate who could defeat Trump. But the party does have options: Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom, Stacy Abrams or Joe Manchin, to name a few.
I know what you’re thinking: “No one has ever heard of those people.” Well, by comparison, no one ever heard of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama until they ran for president.
Joe, you were a hero in 2020. Let that be your legacy.

Internet protection starts at home
So the government wants to control the Internet, really? I busted out laughing, What a waste of time.
Florida House passes social media rules for minors with bipartisan support
I’m a retired Florida teacher and a former media sSpecialist, aka school librarian. I know you cannot collectively control the internet; it must be done from the “user” level to be successful.
Parents, I agree with the government: It is dangerous to give a child open access to the Web. There are ways to block your children from unhealthy websites, like social sites. If you don’t know how to do that, take your child’s computer, or cellphone, to a pro and tell them what you want and they can do it for you and/or teach you how to do it. I know Seminole Public Schools are very good at blocking “bad” sites and they have been from the very beginning.
So you don’t have to worry about what happens at school, which puts the responsibility on you to protect your child. The government can’t successfully control the internet, but you can protect your children at home.

DeSantis hire in hot water
The Guardian newspaper of London recently contacted Christopher Rufo, Gov. DeSantis’s appointee to a trusteeship at New College, about his endorsement of a journal that promotes scientific racism. The newspaper reported that he did not respond directly to any questions put to him but instead made a crude sexual insult to a Guardian reporter.
Is this the sort of behavior Florida can anticipate from the governing body of our state colleges? Racism, compounded by crude sexual insults in response to media inquiries?

Lake decision angers subscriber
So as of Feb. 12, the Sentinel will be delivered in Lake County only by mail.
What a great idea. Now I can read my morning newspaper at about 2 p.m. But it gets better: I will now receive my Sunday edition on Monday unless, of course, there is a holiday on Monday. I will then receive the Sunday edition on Tuesday. What a plan. Brilliant. My subscription expires in March. If I do not expire by then, I will not renew. I suspect I will not be alone.
