Lenovo’s Legion Go is a Handheld PC That’s Equal Parts Steam Deck and Switch

After weeks of rumors and leaks, at IFA 2023, Lenovo has finally announced the Legion Go, its new handheld device that’s equal parts Nintendo Switch and handheld gaming PCs like Valve’s Steam Deck.

The Lenovo Legion Go stands out from its other portable gaming PC devices because the Legion Go’s gamepad is detachable, called the Legion TrueStrike, along with a kickstand on the rear of the device. The Legion TrueStrike features a D-Pad, a mouse wheel, ten programmable shoulder buttons, triggers, and grip buttons, along with two thumbsticks on each controller. To ensure the controllers do not suffer the same drifting issues as something like the Switch, Lenovo confirmed that the Legion TrueStrike uses Hall Effect joysticks.

Lenovo notes that the Legion Go features an 8.8-inch QHD+ IPS display with touchscreen support. Along with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and M.2 SSD storage with three configurations: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, though the company confirmed there is a MicroSD card slot on the device, allowing you to add up to 2TB of additional storage on the device. The Legion Go includes an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU and RDNA graphics with Windows 11 preinstalled as the device’s operating system.

More interestingly, Lenovo mentioned an FPS mode available on the Legion Go. The company describes it as a mode that allows device owners to detach the controllers from the screen and use the kickstand on the back to prop it up. The right TrueStrike controller is then placed in a magnetic base with an optical eye on the bottom right of the controller, which is promised to deliver “more precise aiming and control,” mirroring that of a gaming mouse

The Lenovo Legion Go will release in October with a starting retail price of $699.
