Labrador Absolutely Failing Food Test by Owner Has Internet in Stitches

Dogs are commonly considered our most loyal companions, but a video of one dog failing an obedience test over food has gone viral on social media.

In the clip, shared on Instagram by user @elvisbatzthelab, the pup’s owner can be seen lying on the couch, pretending to fall asleep with a carrot in her hand as the pup, named Elvis, stares.

Elvis initially looks conflicted, as if torn between choosing to be a good boy and choosing to follow his animal instincts. When it seems his owner is sound asleep and unlikely to notice his misdemeanor, he finally goes for the carrot.

“No one remembers a coward,” a caption shared with the video said, adding, “She never remember anything anyway.”

Newsweek reached out to @elvisbatzthelab for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the case.

It is clear that dogs appreciate their humans, but the one thing that may come before us is food. However, this does not mean dogs don’t love us.

In an article published by VCA Animal Hospitals, a national network of veterinary care providers, vets Ryan Llera and Lynn Buzhardt wrote: “Science proves that part of the canine brain is associated with positive emotions and they do, indeed, feel love for their human companions.”

The authors listed several indicators that a dog loves you. Perhaps the most obvious sign is its excitement to see you. If your dog jumps, barks or gets overly excited when you step through the door, that’s likely because it couldn’t wait to have you back home.

The video, first shared on March 5, went viral on Instagram, receiving over 66,873 likes and 700 comments on the platform—with many users amused by the pup’s heist.

One user commented, “The side eye at the end.”

Another added, “Omg I need to try this my lab is also a huge carrot lover.”

“His favorite and mom sleeps so somehow he has to get it, the golden ice,” a commenter wrote.

“So gentle, food thief, my dog would do the same,” another said.

A user wrote: “Elvis, that is a good boy!! Healthy treats are good and makes taking them even better. He is so gentle and sweet!!!”
