Kim Kardashian Hollywood Mobile Game Shuts Down After 10 Years – The Hollywood Reporter

Kim Kardashian‘s mobile game, one of several business ventures launched by the media personality over the last decade, has shuttered.

Game developer Glu announced in a Jan. 3 user forum post that it had “made the decision to sunset” Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, with the game becoming unavailable for future download the same day. The app also stopped offering in-app purchases and was removed from all app stores.

In a statement shared with TMZ, Kardashian said she was “so grateful from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has loved and played” the mobile game over the past 10 years. “This journey has meant so much to me, but I’ve realized that it’s time to focus that energy into other passions. I want to thank the Glu team and the many people behind the scenes who have worked diligently on making it a success. I will be forever inspired by this community that we built together.”

The free-to-play game was launched in 2014, and allowed users to climb the fame ladder to the top of the A-List through real purchases on items like virtual clothes, hairstyles and more to hang with celebrities and attend photo shoots. The app inspired others, including an app for Taylor Swift (The Swift Life) and Britney Spears (Britney Spears: American Dream). Another Glu-developed app for Katy Perry, Katy Perry Pop, was shut down in 2016 only a year after launch.

The same year the app launched, CNN estimated it was earning $700,000. By July 2016, the game had generated $160 million in revenue after being downloaded 45 million times, according to Forbes.

While no new installations are possible, Glu stated those who currently have the game on their devices will have the ability to continue playing, using “any existing in-game virtual currency” until April 8, after which the game will become completely inaccessible. “Thank you for your support of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” the developer said in their statement. “You’ll always be on our A-List!”
