FX’s comedic mockumentary continues to improve with each new season. The series effortlessly combines humor and emotional depth, featuring an array of jokes and gags while also grounding the story in honest emotional beats. Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows concluded with Colin growing up and forgetting his past, and Guillermo paying another vampire to transform him after waiting in vain for Nandor to fulfill his promise. As we await Season 5, we can only hope to revisit the endearing and formative relationship between Baby Colin and Laszlo. Additionally, with the club in ruins, it remains uncertain whether Nadja will keep it open or cut her losses and move on. Furthermore, while Guillermo brings the suitcase of cash to the vampire Derek, it raises questions about whether our beloved familiar/vampire hunter will join the ranks of the undead. The answers to these intriguing storylines remain to be seen, but anticipation is high for the forthcoming season.

42. Justified: City Primeval, FX (July 18)

For a significant period in the 2010s, FX’s Justified reigned as television’s most underappreciated show. Starring Timothy Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, a character from Elmore Leonard’s novels and short stories, this Western-inspired crime drama was a blend of violence, humor, and effortless cool. Justified concluded its six-season run in 2015, but fans were thrilled to learn that Olyphant would reprise his role for Justified: City Primeval, a brand-new limited series set to premiere on FX and Hulu later this year. Based on a Leonard novel that originally did not feature Raylan, the story has been adapted to center around the character. City Primeval combines elements of both a sequel series and a fresh narrative, as it takes Raylan from Kentucky to Detroit and introduces a mostly new cast of characters. Notable additions to the roster include Olyphant’s own daughter, Vivian Olyphant, portraying Raylan’s child, and Boyd Holbrook as Clement Mansel, a cunning killer with a talent for evading authorities. With its signature blend of shootouts, tense encounters, witty dialogue, vibrant villains, and everything that made Justified so exceptional, City Primeval promises to be a thrilling addition to the Justified universe.

41. Ahsoka, Disney+ (August 31)

Following her live-action debut in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano’s (Rosario Dawson) spin-off series will take fans on an all-new adventure with the former Jedi Padawan-turned-Rebel spy. While the series bears Ahsoka’s name, much excitement stems from the stellar ensemble cast set to appear in this Disney+ show. Alongside Ahsoka, characters from Star Wars: Rebels such as Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, and Hera Syndulla (potentially portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) will make appearances, offering a treat for fans of both the prequel trilogy and the animated series. Moreover, the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker adds an extra layer of anticipation. Ahsoka has something for everyone, offering a captivating narrative that appeals to audiences across multiple Star Wars generations.

40. Loki Season 2, Disney+ (October 6)

While Marvel Studios has not revealed the exact release date for Season 2 of Loki, the series is expected to return in the summer, aligning with its 2021 summer premiere. As part of Marvel’s initial trio of Disney+ releases, the Tom Hiddleston-led series proved to be one of the studio’s best offerings for the small screen. Season 1 left viewers on a cliffhanger, with the God of Mischief back at the Time Variance Authority (TVA) following Sylvie’s betrayal, which led to the death of Kang the Conqueror and unleashed chaos. Season 2 promises much excitement, particularly in the aftermath of the season finale’s upheaval. The sizzling chemistry between Loki and Sylvie, with their enticing blend of enemies-to-lovers dynamics, remains a major draw. Fans are eager to see how Loki rebounds from Sylvie’s betrayal and witness the reforging of his friendship with Mobius, following Mobius’s memory loss. While relationships and friendships are only one aspect of the series, they contribute to the compelling television that Loki delivers.

39. Lessons in Chemistry, Apple TV+ (October 13)
Creator: Lee Eisenberg
Cast: Brie Larson, Yasir Hashim Lafond, Aja Naomi King, Patrick Walker

Adapted from Bonnie Garmus’ best-selling novel, Lessons in Chemistry is a stylized period piece set in the 1960s. The series centers around chemist Elizabeth Zott, whose life takes a detour due to a series of unfortunate events. However, Zott picks herself up and ends up hosting a television cooking show, where she covertly teaches housewives and young girls about science under the guise of domesticity. Brie Larson delivers a magnificent performance as the rebellious heroine, who refuses to relinquish her dreams of scientific research to pander to fragile male egos in a repressive society. Larson effortlessly balances the intelligence of the character with the challenges of striving for excellence in a constrained environment, making for a captivating portrayal.

38. All the Light We Cannot See, Netflix (November 2)

Creator: Steven Knight, Shawn Levy
Cast: Aria Mia Loberti, Louis Hofmann, Lars Eidinger, Mark Ruffalo

This Netflix miniseries, based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, unfolds as a poignant World War II drama set in Nazi-occupied France. The story follows a young blind French woman and a newly recruited German soldier whose lives intersect through their connection via broadcast radio waves. However, this is not a typical tale of star-crossed lovers. Instead, the series explores the journey of revolution and self-discovery that both characters undertake, despite existing on opposing sides of a desperate conflict. Audiences fervently hope that their paths do not culminate in tragedy. The beautifully crafted cinematography captures the dread of war, while the profound moments of connection between the two leads, portrayed by Aria Mia Loberti and Louis Hofmann, inspire hope amidst the turmoil.

37. Echo, Disney+ (November 29)…
