James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, recently appeared on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast Inside of You, giving fans of the SnyderVerse universe a reality check – the DCEU and the DCU are not one and the same. This summer’s Blue Beetle is confirmed as the launchpad for the rebranded superhero sandpit ahead of Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy in July 2025, while films such as The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom don’t appear to be stoking their fires.
“I mean the first DCU character for sure is Blue Beetle and the first DCU movie is Superman.”
If we take Gunn’s quote at face value, it appears Blue Beetle the movie won’t be of great importance to the DCU, but the character will factor heavily. Gunn’s own Superman: Legacy is the one to look forward to, where he will lay the groundwork as writer and director for the fresh new DCU. Fans of SnyderVerse will undoubtedly be unhappy with this news as they had been hoping for a resurrection of the old DC continuity.
