Is the new Nokia 3310 tougher than the old one?

The Nokia 3310 was a marvelous feature phone from the beginning of the new millennium. I remember selling my beloved Nokia 3210 and adding some extra money to get my hands on the device. The phone was rather durable, but not indestructible, as we usually tend to joke.

Just check out this video, and you’ll see what I mean 🙂

In fact, it was cleverly designed so that when dropped from high altitudes, the phone would break into three parts, dissipating the impact force. After the drop, you could reassemble the top part, the battery, and the back cover, and the phone would continue its operation as if nothing ever happened.

But was the device super tough?

There is a video posted about four years ago by the Hydraulic Press YouTube channel that demonstrates the strength of various Nokia phones from the 2000s. Among the models, the YouTube channel compared the strength of the new and old Nokia 3310. A 40-ton press was used, and interestingly, the old Nokia 3310 withstood 10 tons of force. At the end of the process, it looked like a new Nokia 3310, hehe.

Now, what about the new 3310?

The new one came in 2017 together with the first smartphones made by HMD Global. Although the Finns weren’t the true Nokia, they also designed the 3310 well. The phone withstood even more force before becoming a pancake. Check out the video!

By the way, don’t do this at home, even if you have some experience with hydraulic press and have a spare Nokia 3310.

Interestingly, the Hydraulic Press Channel is a Yt channel operated by Finn Lauri Vuohensilta.
