iPhone model still used by many is now considered ‘obsolete’

Bad news for those who are using an iPhone that’s still relatively popular.

Apple has a clear policy regarding what it considers obsolete or not.

And this particular iPhone is, well, obsolete now.

Apple follows a straightforward policy when it comes to older iPhones.

The company even makes a distinction between what it considers ‘vintage’ and ‘obsolete’.

An iPhone is considered vintage after five years, it becomes obsolete after seven years.

During those two years, you can still get parts and get updates.

After seven years, it’s over, and users won’t be able to get parts or updates.

The latest phone to join the list of ‘obsolete’ devices is the iPhone 6 Plus.

Launched in September 2014, exactly ten years ago during Apple’s annual event, the iPhone 6 Plus actually lasted three years longer than expected, in that it should’ve been marked as obsolete three years ago, but Apple only did it this year.

Even though it bears the same name, the 6 Plus is more than just a slightly bigger version of the iPhone 6.

It has a 5.5-inch display, the iPhone 6 only had a 4.7-inch one, but it also has higher resolution, pixel density and battery capacity, and optical stabilization, which the iPhone 6 doesn’t have.

Side note, believe it or not, the iPhone 6 started at just $199 in the US.

Imagine being able to get a new iPhone for 200 bucks today.

Apple has come a long way since the iPhone 6.

Last year’s event, for example, was filmed using an iPhone, which would’ve been impossible ten years ago.

For those who are still using an iPhone 6 Plus, well, they might as well wait until September and get the iPhone 16, which will be available next September.
