Apple is working on a wide range of generative AI features for iOS 18, which will be released to all users later this year alongside the launch of the new iPhone 16 models. While we have reported a handful of new additions coming with iOS 18, there is still a lot that we do not know about the platform. Well, a designer has created a stunning iOS 18 concept that aims to show a wide variety of features we should expect from Apple at the WWDC 2024 event.
The new iOS 18 concept imagines a horizontal Home Screen layout and app shortcuts on the Lock Screen stacked in a macOS-like dock
The concept was designed by the YouTube channel Cottpro, highlighting most of the features and design changes that are rumored to be part of Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 update. Note that the concept is only designed based on past rumors and reports, and since the final word rests with Apple, be sure to take it with a grain of salt. This is because there is no surety that the features shown in the video will see daylight.
The iOS 18 concept begins by showing the Lock Screen of the iPhone, you can see that the designer imagined a macOS-like dock above the shortcuts. While this section of iOS is reserved for notifications, app shortcuts are always welcome on the Lock Screen for easier access. The video goes on to show various aspects of the operating system, including a redesigned Control Center.
The Control Center on the iPhone has remained unchanged for quite a while, and if the company plans to take design cues from Vision Pro, it could look similar to the concept. Other than this, the video also shows how users can place app icons anywhere on the Home Screen with empty spaces between them. This aspect has been highlighted in a recent report, and Apple could finally deliver on this point.
Besides this, the iOS 18 concept also shows a horizontal Home Screen on the iPhone, a feature that most users have been wanting for years now. While it is unlikely that Apple will surprise us with a new layout, the concept also shows how users can change the theme of the device on a system level with customized color options. Additionally, it shows how Automatic Playlist in Apple Music could look like as well as the improved Siri with AI integration, which is a previously reported feature slated to launch with iOS 18
