Finally, after a lengthy wait, Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated live-action series One Piece. Though fans have been eagerly awaiting a glimpse of their favorite characters brought to life, Netflix had kept the anime adaptation footage under wraps. Previously, a behind-the-scenes sneak peek featuring Iñaki Godoy in the role of Straw Hat captain Luffy was the only glimpse fans had, although it did not include Luffy’s signature straw hat.
Now, fans can set sail and get excited for the pirate adventure as Season 1 of One Piece with its eight episodes is set to premiere. The trailer introduces us to Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of straw hat-wearing pirates as they embark on a mission to find the legendary treasure and become the greatest treasure hunters in the world.
The trailer also showcases the stunning set pieces of the series, featuring beautiful ships and incredible scenarios. It’s evident that Netflix has spared no expense in honoring the legacy of One Piece, which spans over 1,000 episodes across 20 seasons. And this could just be the beginning.
One Piece Live-Action Series is in Good Hands, Eiichiro Oda Says
The live-action television adaptation of One Piece is helmed by showrunners Matt Owens (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Steven Maeda (The X Files), who also serve as writers and executive producers. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, is also an executive producer and has actively participated in the decision-making process of the live-action adaptation. He expressed his desire to supervise the project while he is still actively involved.
Alongside Godoy, the cast of One Piece includes Mackenyu (Knights of the Zodiac) as Zoro, Emily Rudd (Hunters) as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson (Greenleaf) as Usopp, and Taz Skylar (The Lazarus Project) as Sanji. Additional cast members include Peter Gadiot (Yellowjackets), Morgan Davies (Evil Dead Rise), Ilia Isorelýs Paulino (The Sex Lives of College Girls), and McKinley Belcher III (Ozark).
