Join the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center on Thursday, May 30, for a day-long series dedicated to the benefits of and strategies
for integrating gamified course content, badging and credentialing into your curriculum.
These in-person workshops are ideal for educators seeking to revitalize their teaching
strategies, increase student engagement, or promote lifelong learning. Gain valuable
tools and insights to transform your pedagogy and inspire a new generation of learners.
Through a series of interactive and engaging workshops, participants will be able
to:
- Learn how to create meaningful learning experiences through game-based activities.
- Discover the power of digital badges as micro-credentials.
- Discuss how badges can motivate learners and recognize their achievements.
- Explore the landscape of digital credentials, including certificates, diplomas, and
industry-specific certifications.
Session Schedule
Gamification
9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
This session will cover the history and development of game-based learning and introduce
instructors to a variety of game-based learning tools and their integration with the
Canvas LMS where possible. Tools covered in this session will include Microsoft Forms
as a gamification tool, Socrative, and a PowerPoint based “Jeopardy” game.
Do It Yourself Escape Room
10:45 – 11:30 a.m.
This session will discuss the numerous educational benefits of escape rooms in higher
education classrooms. By presenting students with complex puzzles and challenges,
escape rooms promote teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills. Participants
will also learn the steps of creating their own digital escape room with Microsoft
OneNote.
Hotspot – Choose Your Own Adventure!
11:30 a.m. – Noon
Create your own adventure using hot spot images, a dynamic tool that allows you to
incorporate interactive elements into your course. You will explore different techniques
for designing interactive elements and create your own adventure.
Credential / Micro-Credential / Badge
12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Credentials, Micro-Credentials, and Badges are all forms of educational recognition,
differing in scope, depth, and application. This session will explore the similarities
and differences between each of these and how they can be utilized for professional
development and educational advancement.

12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.
