It appears that Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, is not actually dead. Despite sacrificing herself in the comic Amazing Spider-Man #26, it seems that Ms. Marvel will be making a comeback. In fact, Iman Vellani, the actor who portrays Kamala in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be co-writing the new comic that brings Ms. Marvel back to life, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Vellani will be collaborating with Sabir Pirzada, a TV writer for Ms. Marvel, on the new comic. The issue will be illustrated by Carlos Gomez and Adam Gorham, with Sara Pichelli creating the main covers. The title of the comic will be “Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant,” referencing the Disney+ series finale, where Kamala is now an official mutant. This explains her resurrection, as mutants in the X-Men comics are known for coming back to life.
In regards to her new role as a comic-book writer, Vellani expressed some nervousness, stating that it was scarier than joining the MCU. However, she wrote what she herself would want to read, drawing inspiration from her own love for comics. She described the opportunity as writing her own fan fiction and being given a professional tool to do so.
The character of Kamala was created ten years ago by G. Willow Wilson, along with editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker. The original artists for the comics were Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie. Originally an Inhuman, Kamala’s powers came from the Terrigen Mists. While her new mutant status may seem contradictory to her Inhuman background, Vellani assures fans that her Inhuman origin will not be retconned. The new storyline will delve into the complexities of Kamala’s identity, considering the conflict between Inhumans and mutants.
In addition to the announcement, a character sheet and cover were released, showcasing Kamala in her new X-Men attire.
With Iman Vellani’s involvement in writing the new Ms. Marvel comic, fans can expect a fresh and exciting perspective on this beloved superhero.
