Huawei Still Not Dominating Chinese Market, As Three iPhone Models Occupied The Top 5 Best-Selling Spots For October 2023

Huawei’s comeback has been noticed by industry insiders, and most notably, its competitors, as the Mate 60 flagship series and the Kirin 9000S SoC pairing created a sales storm in China, garnering immense popularity that allowed the company to post an incredible 90 percent growth in October. However, Huawei’s resurgence might not be as meteoric as one previously expected because the latest data reveals that Apple has three iPhone models that are in the top 5 best-selling spot for the region.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max was the best-selling model in China in October 2023, followed by the Mate 60 Pro

Data shared by Counterpoint Research shows that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 5 percent market share in China and is the best-selling model in the region. For those who believed that the Mate 60 Pro took the crown for this period, Huawei’s top-end model secured second place, with a 4 percent market share. The iPhone 15 Pro took the same share as the Mate 60 Pro, but it took the third sport, indicating that Apple’s latest ‘Pro’ models continue to sell in droves.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max garnered the interest of consumers thanks to its exclusive tetraprism 5x telephoto camera upgrade, its titanium frame, and upgraded storage and RAM. The Mate 60 Pro has shown an incredible fight against a company that ships millions of iPhones annually, holding its own against the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which would sell well on its own thanks to those exclusive upgrades. Strange enough, the iPhone 15 Plus was nowhere on the list, even though it shares similar traits with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, such as a bigger display and a larger battery.

Instead, the fifth position is occupied by the regular iPhone 15, as it trails behind the Honor X50, a model belonging to Huawei’s former sub-brand. TrendForce previously highlighted that one of the challenges that Apple would face in 2024 was its Chinese rival’s comeback, but according to these rankings, Huawei has significant ground to cover before it can pose an actual threat to its competitors. Apple had previously reassured its shareholders during its Q4 2023 financials that demand in China was still strong to ease their nervous outlook in the region, and the latest rankings are proof of that.

Still, with Huawei estimated to ship 100 million units in 2024 and its P70 flagship family also being readied for next year, the company has sufficient momentum on its side to potentially create problems for Apple’s iPhone 16 launch.
