How to use Google Docs to collaborate on documents using Meet calls

Google Docs offers a wide range of features and recently Google has also added a host of new ones to make things easier for users. Apart from this, Docs also comes with several collaboration features like ability to mention someone via the “@” command, share links and more.
However, one feature that makes collaboration much easier for users is the newly added Meet integration that allows users to instantly start a Meet call and discuss things right within the Google Docs.
If you want to use this feature, here’s how to use Meet in Google Docs.
Steps to follow:

  • Open docs.google.com using any web browser(Chromium-based web browsers are preferred)
  • Login using your Google Account, if not already logged in
  • Then, open the document for which your are looking to collaborate with others
  • Once opened, look for Meet icon at the top right corner (before the Share button)
  • You’ll see a drop down menu with two options — Start a new meeting and use a Meeting code. The drop down also shows scheduled meetings.
  • To create a new meeting select “Start a new meeting” option. And, to join an existing meeting select “Use a meeting code option”.
  • Once the meeting is created, you’ll get two share options — This video call only and This file and video call. Click on the “Copy” icon in front of the options as per your preference.
  • Share it with others via email, chat or any other medium you prefer.

That’s it. Users can now join the meeting with the link you’ve shared with them. Also, the entire meeting window is kept at the right side of the Google Docs that keeps things simple and clutter-free. To make things better, Google has aslo added two buttons at the top for enabling the popup window mode and taking the entire meeting to a separate tab.
