Smart wearables have changed the way we keep track of our health. It gives us an incentive to exercise actively and stay in shape. If you wear a fitness band on a daily basis, then you should definitely use the Google Fit app to keep all your fitness and health info in check.
Thankfully, you can use Google Fit with some of the well-known wearables on the market. No matter which model of fitness band or smartwatch you use, you should be able to connect it to Google’s health-centric platform and synchronize your fitness data.
Without any further ado, let’s get right into the process of connecting a fitness band or smartwatch to Google Fit.

Guide to syncing a Wear OS watch to Google Fit

If you have a smartwatch that runs Google’s Wear OS, it will have the Google Fit app installed out of the box. If that isn’t the case for you, go to the Play Store on your watch and install the following app. You also need to install Google Fit on your phone so that you can connect your smartwatch to it. The rest of the process is described below in steps:

  1. Start with pressing the side button on your watch and launching Google Fit from the drawer.
  2. Next, tap the arrow icon to go through the introduction pages.
  3. After that, choose the Google account that you wish to sync your fitness data with.
  4. Now accept all the permission requests from the Google Fit app. Otherwise, it won’t be able to collect health sensor data from your Wear OS watch.
  5. Adjust and confirm the height and weight values to the correct info.
  6. Finally, choose your goal for the activity level that suits your preference. Note that you can change it later in the app.

Once the Google Fit app on your Wear OS watch starts collecting your fitness data, it should automatically sync all of it with your Google account over Wi-Fi or cellular. Based on the available sensors on your smartwatch, Google Fit should sync your steps, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and sleep tracking data.

Guide to syncing Amazfit (Zepp) data to Google Fit

Huami’s Amazfit lineup of fitness watches is excellent at its class. By default, Amazfit wearables require you to install the Zepp app (formerly known as Amazfit) on your phone for the sync feature.
However, you can also connect your Google Fit account to the Zepp app and sync your health and fitness data recorded by your Amazfit watch. The whole process goes as follows:

  1. Open the Zepp app on your phone and head over to the Profile menu from the bottom.
  2. Next, tap Add account under the “More” section in the Profile menu.
  3. Choose Google Fit in the list, and then select the Google account you want your fitness data to sync with.
  4. Go through the requested permissions and allow the Zepp app to sync your info to Google Fit.

Whether you are using an Amazfit or a Zepp smartwatch, you can follow the above steps to connect it to Google Fit via the Zepp app. The Google Fit app will always back up your health data to the cloud.

Syncing other health platforms to Google Fit

Health platforms like Fitbit and Samsung health don’t natively allow users to sync fitness data to a Google Fit account. But you can use the Health Sync app on your Android phone to do just that.

  1. First, download and install the Health Sync app (by appyhapps.nl) from the Play Store, and then launch it from the app drawer.
  2. Select the source app from where you want to import your fitness data.
  3. After that, select the health app where you want to export your data from the source app. It should be Google Fit.
  4. Now go through the on-screen prompts and confirm the health data you wish to sync to your Google Fit account.
  5. At last, allow the Health Sync app permissions to sync your individual data to Google Fit.

It’s quite unfortunate that Samsung and Fitbit wearables don’t allow users to sync fitness data to Google Fit from their companion apps. Until they decide to add the functionality, you will need to rely on the Health Sync Android app.
