Henry Cavill to Star in Warhammer 40,000 Series at Amazon Prime Video: Report

Henry Cavill is reportedly involved in an Amazon Prime Video series based on the popular miniature wargame Warhammer 40,000. According to Deadline, the actor is exploring various opportunities, and the adaptation of Warhammer 40,000 is in the “advanced stages” of development. While details are scarce, Cavill is set to star in the series and serve as an executive producer, aiming to appeal to a broader audience. Warner Bros. recently decided not to continue Cavill’s role as Superman as part of their future plans for the DC franchise, following the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-heads of DC Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Amazon Studios is in the final stages of acquiring the rights to Warhammer 40,000, a board game series manufactured by Games Workshop. Similar to its video game counterparts, the original board games are set in a futuristic world where humanity struggles to survive alongside hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. The gameplay is akin to Dungeons & Dragons, involving dice and miniature figures that players can move on a model battlefield. The characters are equipped with various weapons, from firearms to magically imbued primitive armaments. Dedicated fans also enjoy painting the models as a hobby, enhancing their visual appeal, as Cavill has showcased on social media in the past.

Shortly after his return as Superman for Warner Bros., Cavill stepped down from his role as the lead character Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher series. The role has been passed on to Liam Hemsworth, who will portray the dark fantasy character starting from The Witcher season 4.

Variety confirms that Cavill’s departure from The Witcher remains unchanged, effectively putting an end to his tenure in the series. Additionally, Cavill’s return as Superman was recently canceled, as Gunn plans to reboot the superhero franchise, focusing on the character’s younger years.

Interestingly, hours before reports about Cavill’s involvement in the Warhammer 40,000 series emerged, actor Rahul Kohli proposed a similar idea on Twitter. Rahul, known for his role in Midnight Mass, said, “Hey Henry, f–k it, let’s make a Warhammer movie/limited series. Kind regards, Rahul.” Asa Butterfield, an actor from Sex Education, also joined in the fun and expressed his desire to play a servitor—a class of mindless, cybernetic drones comprised of both human flesh and robotic technology.

Amazon Studios has yet to release an official statement about the Warhammer 40,000 project. However, this is not the only video game adaptation in the works at Prime Video. The platform has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of God of War, whose existence was first reported in March. The series will be set in Norse mythology and follow the storyline of the critically acclaimed 2018 video game, featuring a reserved Kratos embarking on a journey to the highest peak with his estranged son Atreus, as they forge a father-son bond that will be tested at every turn.
