‘Haunted Mansion’ Doomed by $150 Million Price Tag and Poor Reviews as ‘Secret Invasion’ Scores the Title of Worst Marvel Disney Plus Finale

We had mentioned that it was going to be an eventful week for the esteemed entertainment company, Disney.

The highly anticipated release of the movie Haunted Mansion is just a mere 48 hours away. As expected for potential blockbuster films like this, all attention is focused on its performance at the box office. Although the movie has received a relatively positive forecast, its inflated budget, underwhelming reviews, and Disney’s recent streak of box office disappointments are overshadowing its potential success.

Meanwhile, the TV series Secret Invasion is doing everything it can to frustrate loyal Marvel fans with its final episode of the season. Aside from an abundance of plot holes that lack coherence, the episode is also receiving negative feedback on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fortunately, there is a glimmer of good news in this roundup. The fourth and final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series finally does justice to a beloved character whose highly significant storyline reaches a culmination after 17 years since the character’s introduction.

The fourth and final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is just around the corner, and it brings back several characters from the original film series that premiered on Disney Channel 17 years ago in 2006. One of the most noteworthy moments from the official trailer of the Disney Plus show was the revelation that Ryan Evans (played by Lucas Grabeel) is indeed a gay character or, at the very least, expresses romantic interest in men. This marks the franchise’s first on-screen acknowledgement of his sexuality, although it has been subtly hinted at in the past. While it may seem like a minor development, it is a significant triumph for Disney and High School Musical fans.

The Secret Invasion Season Finale Disappoints Fandom, Becoming the Lowest-Rated Marvel Episode on Disney Plus

The potential for Secret Invasion to be an outstanding show that exceeds everyone’s expectations quickly turned into the exact opposite. With moments that were somewhat impressive to others that were utterly disappointing, the six-episode series on Disney Plus ultimately stumbled upon its final episode. Even a thrilling fight scene between two incredibly powerful superheroes was insufficient to salvage the series, resulting in a 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, officially crowning it as the lowest-rated Marvel TV show episode on Disney Plus, and with valid reasons.

The High Costs of Haunted Mansion Jeopardize its Success Despite Promising Box Office Projections

Presently, Justin Simien’s Haunted Mansion is expected to generate $25 million to $30 million in its opening weekend at theaters across North America, according to an article by Variety. This is actually quite respectable considering the film’s target audience is younger, family-oriented viewers. It falls short of the projected earnings for Barbie during its second weekend in theaters ($85 million), but it is still an impressive figure. However, Haunted Mansion was made with a budget of $150 million and required millions more for marketing, creating an uphill battle for its success, especially when recent Disney disappointments like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Elemental cast a shadow over its box office potential. This only amplifies the challenges currently faced by Disney and the entire Hollywood industry. Furthermore, the film is also grappling with negative reviews.
