Spellcaster’s Academy is a Harry Potter themed school in Westfield, Indiana, USA. The school was inaugurated only as recently as July 22nd, 2023, and is yet to open its doors to students this September. Spellcaster’s Academy aims to provide a life skills-oriented education system for “at-risk” children, as an alternative to the traditional public school system. However, even before this Harry Potter themed school could start its journey, it seems to have run into a beef with the Westfield City Council.
It is unclear why this newly opened unique school is already at risk of getting shut down. However local reports suggest that the school does not have a “zoning approval” from the City Council. Additionally, the information available about Spellcaster’s Academy on its official website, gives the impression that it does not have permission from Warner Bros. either as they own the rights to the Harry Potter franchise.
Indianapolis Star reached out to both Warner Bros and J.K. Rowling for comments on the matter but are yet to receive any clarification. Spellcaster’s Academy’s property owner and “headmaster” on the other hand, has reverted to them with “I fully understand this is very unique and is going to irk some people. But unique is exactly what is needed to help kids in need because until now, no one has been able to come up with an efficient system to help them achieve a better life.”

Spellcaster’s Academy is non-profit themed school. It has designed a curriculum featuring of four foundational subjects- English, Math, Science and History that can be paired along with life-skills and preparatory subjects. They also mention keeping the student to teacher ratios small, along with a lot of focus on parents’ involvement.
As for the fun part, the entire school is designed on Hogwarts, and the campus comes with its own ‘Great Lake’, Quadball Pitch, and Mythical Forest. There’s an AirBnB at the campus to treat outsiders to a taste of the Harry Potter themed school.
A Sorting Hat quiz is also available on the website, to sort visitors into one of the four houses- Copperclaw, Blackwing, Lionheart and Parseltongue. Here too, the houses are named after the four founders of Spellcaster’s Academy, where each is the head of their respective houses.
While they did come up with a unique alternative to the traditional public school system, it is a question if they got the basics right in the first place.
