Government plans to issue a notice to WhatsApp regarding unsolicited calls from unidentified foreign numbers.

The government is planning to send a notice to WhatsApp regarding unsolicited spam calls from unknown international numbers to its users. Minister of State for IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has emphasized that digital platforms are responsible for user safety. The surge in spam calls from international numbers to WhatsApp users in India has raised concerns. The government will send a notice to WhatsApp to address the issue. The minister has also announced that the government is considering guidelines for preloaded apps, and that platforms are responsible for user safety and accountability. If there are any issues of spam or breach of privacy, the government will respond. The methods that scammers use to identify WhatsApp numbers need to be examined, and the privacy breach will be a violation if a database is involved. WhatsApp has promised to reduce the unsolicited and unrecognised international calls to its subscribers by half by using AI and machine learning.
